Toggl Track alternative · updated 28 October 2026

A Toggl Track alternative you pay for once.

Toggl Track is a polished, popular time tracker, priced per user per month. If you work alone and mostly want your hours to become invoices, a one-time licence may cost you less within the first year. Here is an honest comparison.

Toggl Track, in fairness

  • A strong tracker. Native apps on every platform, browser extensions, calendar integrations and many integrations with project tools.
  • A free plan for up to 3 users, without billable rates.
  • Paid plans per user: Starter $9 a month billed yearly ($12 monthly), Premium $16 billed yearly ($24 monthly). Billable rates start on Starter.
  • Your data lives in Toggl’s cloud, behind an account.

If your team tracks together, uses its integrations or wants the same timer on phone and laptop, Toggl Track is likely the better choice today.

Where Weft fits, and where it doesn’t

A good fit if you

  • bill by the hour, alone or for a small studio, from one computer
  • want to pay once instead of every month
  • care that your client data never leaves your machine
  • invoice EU or German clients and need the wording and e-invoices right
  • have years of history you’d rather keep

Not a fit yet if you

  • need a team sharing live timers, or timesheet approvals
  • rely on integrations with Jira, Asana or your accounting software
  • want your timer synced across phone and laptop today (Sync is planned)
  • take card payments through the invoice itself

Moving from Toggl Track

  1. In Toggl Track, open Reports → Detailed, pick the dates (all of them, if you can), then Export → CSV.
  2. Drop the file into Weft. It recognises Toggl’s format on its own, in English or German, and shows clients, projects, hours and amounts before anything is saved.
  3. Import. If something looks wrong, an import can be undone from the import history.
